Known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards, glorious Beaux-Arts-style palaces, municipal buildings and museums and a reputation for the high life (which in the 1900s earned its nickname of "Little Paris"), Bucharest, Romania's largest city and capital, is today a bustling metropolis. Alternative and gritty with epic nightlife like Berlin, grand and elegant and pulsating with style like Paris and particularly proud and cultured – Bucharest is a very affordable European city, it’s well-connected in terms of flights, the food is delicious, and the people are absolutely lovely.

Romanian legend has it that the city of Bucharest was founded on the banks of the Dambovita River by a shepherd named Bucur, whose name literarily means "joy." His flute playing reportedly dazzled the people and his hearty wine from nearby vineyards endeared him to the local traders, who gave his name to the place „The city of joy".

Romania is a country which includes more than 1,200 members of the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, more than 60 members of the Romanian Society of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, specialists and trainees, staff members of important Universities and Clinical Hospitals.

Banking and Money

Romania is a member of the European Union, and its currency is the RON, but you can pay in euro at any merchant via POS – credit card.

Foreign currency can be exchanged at exchange offices throughout the city. The exchange rate is not fixed please check this site for current exchange rates.
Banks are open on weekdays only, from 10:00 to 17:00.

There is a national ATM service, identified as MB (Multibanco), which allows for cash withdrawals 24h a day - most European debit cards can be used (check with your bank).
The international Euronet Worldwide ATM service (the blue and yellow ATMs) is also available throughout the city - but, unlike the MB, this service might charge for the use of its cash machines.
